Swamp Tales for Flute Ensemble - by Charles Fernandez/BMI
Swamp Tales for Flute Ensemble - by Charles Fernandez/BMI
Once I decided to do a work called Swamp Tales, I researched the most famous swamps of the world and decided on four:
1. Vasyugan Swamp – Russia
2. Asmat Swamp – Indonesia
3. Bangweulu Floodplains – Africa
4. Atchafalaya – Louisiana
Once the Swamps were chosen, I researched native music of the areas involved and pieced together appropriate material. The most challenging aspect was that all the native music involved is very percussive and percussion oriented. Drums and Mallet in particular are the most featured. The challenge was making such percussive material work with a flute orchestra. I’m quite happy with the results, but please judge it for yourself and enjoy!
